I'm someone who loves cities (surprise!). I grew up in NYC and it's hard for me not to instantly feel connected to the energy of a big city anywhere in the world. Some of my favorite trips have intentionally been "anchored" to big cities (like Paris, Milan, and London), so that I have the luxury of feeling at home before or after escaping to a more remote location to relax. I included all of this to say that a visit to Kamalame Cay is the exact opposite of a true city experience. It's a tiny private island in the Bahamas where the beach and the ocean are the main attractions. There's no TV or WiFi in the rooms, but you'll have your own beach cabana, kayaks, and a golf cart to tour the island with. Kamalame is where you come to relax, recharge, and refocus. As someone who also has a personal connection to the Bahamas (my wonderful mom is from there), it's no surprise that I walked away from my time feeling incredibly relaxed and anxious to return. Here's my simple guide to enjoying your time at Kamalame.

How to enjoy your time at Kamalame

Here's all your essentials for a fun trip!

Getting there: You can get to Kamalame by flying into Nassau and taking a small 8-10 seater island hopper plane over to Andros. The flight is only 10-15 minutes. You can also book a direct private flight from Fort Lauderdale. Whatever you choose, the KC team can help with your arrangements.
Where to eat and drink: This one is easy, there’s two options on the island: eating at the Great House or having a meal at the Pool Bar. Breakfast is delivered fresh to your Beach Bungalow or house every AM. The vibe on the island is carefree, not having to think about where to eat made it easier to relax and unplug.
What to do: My mom and I did our best beach bum impersonations while we were there, which is just a fancy way of saying we didn't do much :) You can sign up for activities (like a lunch time or sunset cruise, bone-fishing, diving, snorkeling, etc), but I prefer to keep it simple. Here's a few fairly low keys ways to enjoy your time on the island:
Walk the beach, then relax in your oceanside cabana.
Go kayaking: every beach bungalow came with 1-2 kayaks.
Attend a luncheon: I haven't been to one yet, but when I found out that people love it so much that some fly in for the day for brunch/lunch - I knew I'd plan my return trip around an upcoming Luncheon date.
Visit the spa: Even if you don't book a treatment, making a pitstop at the Overwater Spa for pics is basically a requirement. Depending on where your house or bungalow is on the island, you'll be driving or walking past it every day anyway, so why not?
Go snorkeling: When I think of reefs, I automatically think of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Surprisingly, Andros has its own Barrier Reef and it's supposed to be amazing. You can dive and/or snorkel in the third largest barrier reef in the world when you visit Andros!
